27. November 2023

We are inviting highly motivated early-stage research students, primarily PhD candidates, to apply for the Max Planck Summer Academy for Legal History 2024. This immersive program, scheduled from July 8 to July 19, 2024, offers a unique opportunity for participants to delve into both traditional and contemporary approaches in legal history. This year’s theme: ‚The mediality and materiality of law‘.

The Summer Academy unfolds in three integral parts. Initially, participants are introduced to sources, methodological approaches, theoretical models, and engaging debates on fundamental legal history issues. Renowned experts from the Institute and external speakers will lead the introductory courses. Subsequently, participants present their individual projects, aligning them with the theme of the year. The third segment provides a platform for participants to refine their research using the Institute's library and engage in discussions with experts in various legal history fields.
