History of conflict resolution in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries

Research Project

Systematic and coordinated research into the history of European judicial history is still lacking. This also applies to forms of conflict resolution outside the courts. In the handbook project "History of Conflict Resolution in Europe", about 200 authors deal with questions of judicial and extrajudicial conflict resolution from Antiquity to the present day. The handbook will be published in four volumes (1: Antiquity, 2: Middle Ages, 3: Early Modern Times, 4: 19th and 20th centuries) by Springer at the end of 2019. Peter Collin is the editor of volume 4. In this volume, about 30 main articles and 20 regional survey articles offers an overview of the history of institutionalised and rule-based conflict resolution in modernity as well as the current state of research.
