Research Field

The basis of the research carried out in the department is the development of a multidisciplinary-informed legal theory with a particular emphasis on private law theory. A number of individual questions belonging to the theory and legal doctrine of private law comprise the research fields, above all theories of contract, delict and unjust enrichment law, theory of property and the theory of intellectual property, comparative private law, the intellectual-historically based foundations of private law, especially the philosophy of law and social philosophy of the modern period as well as critical, empirical and realist jurisprudential theories of legal scholarship such as legal realism, critical legal studies and law and economics. The field possesses references and possibilities for connection to research involving private law applicability and its method in the plural multilevel system of supranational statehood.
