Dr. Jonathan Silberstein-Loeb
Dr. Jonathan Silberstein-Loeb is a lawyer and historian specializing in international arbitration, investigations, and litigation. He is International Counsel in the disputes team at Homburger AG in Zürich.
His current research project, entitled “The Creation of Private Rights in Public Information,” investigates how, starting with letters and leading to the Internet, legal regimes have developed to facilitate control over publicly-available information. This project follows on from his book, The International Distribution of News (Cambridge University Press, 2014), which explored how news organizations, such as the Associated Press, BBC, Havas, Reuters, and Wolff, developed contractual mechanisms to control access to news in the absence of a copyright.
Dr. Silberstein-Loeb is a barrister of the Inner Temple and a member of the New York Bar. Prior to joining Homburger, he was a member of the litigation department at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York, before which he practiced in chambers at Five Paper Buildings, Inner Temple, London. Before joining the bar, Dr. Silberstein-Loeb was a senior lecturer in history at Keble College, Oxford and a research fellow at the Saïd Business School. He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Cambridge before which he was a Fulbright Fellow in Kyoto, Japan. He holds an LL.M. from NYU Law School, an LL.B. from City University, London, and a B.A. from Colby College.
