"The era of statehood", Carl Schmitt notes in his new foreword to "The Concept of the Political" from March 1963, "is now coming to an end. No more words can be said about it." But the condemned live longer: more than half a century later this finding is still unredeemed. Is Schmitt's swan song therefore outdated? Or does it seem plausible again in view of current developments? Thomas Vesting's recently published work "Staatstheorie" poses such questions. In this colloquium we want to use Vesting’s work and the theses developed in it to discuss the fundamental question of whether and to what extent in the 21st century the state can still be spoken of as the primary point of reference in political and legal debates - or whether and if so why it must be increasingly spoken of again today. The author will be present at the discussion.)
The event is fully booked. Unfortunately, registrations can no longer be accepted.
