Legal Books of the Year

December 03, 2013

Three publications from MPI researchers are "Juristische Bücher des Jahres / Legal Books of the Year". The "Neue Juristische Wochenschrift" recommends in issue 47/2013 as one of the legal books of the year those by Lena Foljanty and Wim Decock, both researchers at the Max-Planck-Institute for European Legal History, as well as a book of the deceased Cornelia Vismann. According to the journal, Lena Foljanty’s book „Recht oder Gesetz. Juristische Identität und Autorität in den Naturrechtsdebatten der Nachkriegszeit“ is an „excitingly and brilliantly“ written study about the natural law debates in the post-war period, in which the theory never appears as an end in itself or superfluous, but serving the historical understanding. Wim Decock’s "Theologians and Contract Law: The Moral Transformation of the Ius Commune (ca. 1500–1650)" is characterized by a profound knowledge of the sources. His work is not only impressive to legal historians but fascinating for everybody, interested in contract law. „Medien der Rechtssprechung“, a book by the 2010 deceased former researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for European Legal History, Cornelia Vismann, is acknowledged by the "Neue Juristische Wochenschrift" as a legacy, which should not be rejected carelessly by intellectually and literarily interested lawyers.
