How free are science and education?
The state should guarantee the freedom of science and protect science from state influence. It is difficult to maintain a balance in this paradoxical situation. In Germany, freedom of science is governed by the Basic Law (Article 5.3). Legal historian Michael Stolleis notes that science is coming under increasing pressure in other European countries.
