Introductory Lecture to the Historiography of the Portuguese Empire: the cases of Angola and Japan

The members of the project Glocalizing Normativities: A Global Legal History (15th – 21st century) are organizing a lecture to introduce the main topics and open a discussion on the historiography of the Portuguese Empire in Japan and Angola. Luisa Stella Coutinho and Mariana Armond Dias Paes are both organizing and presenting the lecture, which is divided into two parts. The first part will be held in English and consists in an exposition of the theories, history of the historiography, and description of sources and archives in different parts of the world. The second part, in Spanish and Portuguese, will consist of a discussion on the main approaches currently discussed in the historiography, particularly by legal historians and scholars specializing on the Portuguese Empire.
