Using Normative Knowledge from the Past

The technical revolution and corresponding media changes have always overturned the understandings of what is called ‘legal tradition’ and brings about considerable tensions between history and law, past experiences and current challenges. The project 'Using Normative Knowledge from the Past' is strongly concern for the present, but from an historical dimension which distinguishes itself from other legal studies on urgent issues triggered by technical innovations, such as big data, artificial intelligence, block chain, etc. On the contrary, this project focuses on how law or meaning was produced through legal practice in times of great change, what epistemology legal historians can draw from these past but innovative ways in which legal practitioners dealt with those changes, and how legal traditions were (re)constructed by looking for coherence within these tensions.
