On 30 May 2016, an abridged version of a lecture given by Michael Stolleis at the public assembly of the order Pour le Mérite in Berlin, at which President Gauck was present, was published in the F.A.Z. in the society section on p. 13. The lecture was titled »Woher - wohin? Bemerkungen zu Geschichte und Zukunft Europas« (»Whence – Whither? Comments on Europe's Past and Future«).
