In the context of the CRC Project “Knowledge of the Pragmatici”, Manuela Bragagnolo is working on the epitomization of learned legal culture in 16th century pragmatic texts. The core of her project is dedicated to the Manual for Confessors written by the Spanish canon lawyer and moral theologian Martín de Azpilcueta (1542-1586). Based on the examination of the legal sources of the Manual, the project will analyse how learned legal culture was condensed and modified in its different editions and translations. After having received her PhD from the University of Trento, Manuela Bragagnolo was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Lyon and at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University (New York City).
