Information for visiting academics

The Max Planck Institute for European Legal History is visited each year by large numbers of academics and scholarship holders who wish to take advantage of the outstanding scientific working conditions, make contacts and peruse the specialist literature in the library. We make every effort to accommodate the wishes of our guests and ensure that researchers derive as much benefit as possible from their visit.

Day-visitors

Academics, doctoral candidates and students may use the Library without pre-registering. Space is available in the reading room. For further information click here .

Guest academics

We also welcome academics from Germany or abroad who are interested in working at the Institute for an extended period. In case of need, and insofar as we are able, the Institute is happy to arrange accommodation and if necessary a workroom. Further information you can find in our

PDF [910 KB] Information Broschure for Guests and Scholarship Holders

In order to help our guests and employees from abroad to find their way through the red tape of German burocracy and to get familiar with German cultural habits the Max Planck Society offers a guide for international scientists. It will give you an idea of what to do in preparation for your departure for Germany and what formalities have to be dealt with shortly after your arrival. It provides useful informations on everyday life in Germany and an overview of Do's and Don'ts in dealing with colleagues at work.
