Michael Stolleis to receive the Hegel Prize

January 30, 2018

Michael Stolleis, scientific member and emeritus director of the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History, will receive this year's Hegel Prize awarded by the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart. The jury recognises Michael Stolleis as one of the “most productive and perceptive legal thinkers of the present day”. In his four-volume “A History of Public Law”, he has succeeded in intertwining scientific, intellectual, legal history and political history and, in so doing, has contributed to a deeper understanding of the contemporary legal culture. At the same time, Stolleis possesses the remarkable ability to represent differentiated historical and systematic contexts in a way that “makes reading an engaging experience”.

Every three years, the Hegel Prize is awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to developments in the humanities and is endowed with 12,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place on 11 June 2018 in Stuttgart.
