Doucet Scholarship 2018

November 16, 2017

In 2015 the Institute has acquired the private library of the Argentinian legal historian Gastón Doucet. Together with his wife, the historian Lourdes Doucet, he collected during his lifetime more than 4.800 volumes. The collection mainly consists of works on the legal and social history of early modern Spanish America, and thus constitutes an important addition to the Institute’s library.

Starting this year, the Institute offers annually a three-month scholarship to young Latin American researchers who would like to work with this important collection.

Due to the high number of interesting applications received with the first call, we decided to grant the 2018 scholarship to two academics, both from the University of Buenos Aires.

Cristian Miguel Poczynok studies the legal situation of land ownership in Latin America of the 18th and 19th Century. Marcela Sáenz Castro looks at the claims made by the indigenous population before the Real Audencia in Buenos Aires at the end of the colonial period. Both applicants will be staying at Institute from January until March 2018.
